ASFA BY-ELECTIONS MARCH 2024

Voting Ballots will be sent to your personal emails recognized by Concordia

  • "Hi! My name is Emma. I’m in my second year at Concordia in Sociology and I’m one of your candidates for the ASFA outreach coordinator.

I’ve been involved in student government and organizing since I was a teenager as far up as the school board level and have never been afraid to voice an opinion. As a student representative, I pride myself on accountability, community and democracy. My job is to represent the interests and concerns of the student body, regardless of if it lines up with my personal wants, and that’s something I take seriously. You can count on me to be there for you, not for myself.

I believe wholeheartedly in the enrichment of student life. As outreach coordinator, I will organize a FROSH that prioritizes starting the year off with stronger social bonds with your fellow students and hopefully relationships that enrich your experience at Concordia. I know firsthand how lonely it can be on campus and how difficult it can be to break from that mold.

As part of my mandate, I want to make ASFA more accessible to students who haven’t previously been involved in student government. I will create a more open dialogue between MA’s, the student body and ASFA in order to champion students’ wants and needs. I would be here at your disposal, and that’ll come through in every decision I make as outreach coordinator. Vote for ASFA Direct and vote for an exec team that prioritizes accountability, advocacy, democracy and community."

  • Manager, Clubs Coordinator, Gallerist, External Affairs; the list goes on. I hope to be an asset to your team.

  • Hello everybody, my name is Wren, I’m the current Outreach Coordinator and I’m running for re-election. In the last few months, I have had the opportunity to learn more about how the association functions and have mainly focused on the communication aspect of my mandate, having created outreach material for both the strikes and elections. Previously, I've worked with ASFA as the COMS Guild’s VP of Finances (2021-2022) and President (2022-2023) while being the Loyola Committee Chair. With these positions, I've organized cool events and initiatives, gaining experience in academic, finance, and social fields. As ASFA’s Outreach Coordinator, I'd continue to explore various outreach strategies, both online and offline, reaching more students and promoting a diverse student life. I also want to build a structure so that communication between students and ASFA is smoother. I have found it hard to properly promote our initiatives as they have come at a fast pace and have necessitated some last minute planning. However, I would like to work behind the scenes with elected executives to make ASFA a place where academic and professional success is possible. Finally, I'm in my fifth year at Concordia and, in that time, have earned a BA in Communications and started a BA in History with a minor in Law and Society. My goal is to make Arts and Science students feel they can reach out for support, as navigating university can be daunting.

Academic Coordinator

  • My name is Angelica, I’m in my third year of honors cell and molecular biology with a minor in multidisciplinary studies in science and I am ASFA's current academic coordinator. I have been with ASFA since 2021 and have served as the co-president and councilor of the Science College Student Association and sat on multiple standing committees.

In my time as Academic Coordinator, I have overhauled the academic journal, forged new relationships with faculty and university administrators, and advocated against the tuition hikes and for free tuition by assisting in the mobilization efforts around campus.

I have learned valuable lessons during my mandate, and believe that I am equipped to continue serving arts and science students in a community oriented and efficient manner. If elected, I will work to strengthen ASFA’s relationship with other faculty associations to ensure the sharing of resources and knowledge; provide pointed support for the diverse academic needs of our students by constructing online resources; ensure that every department has student representation on their faculty committees; and implement a collection of accessible literature about current intersectional issues in postsecondary education. I will continue my relationships with faculty and university administration, since a familiar face can effectively advocate for a student voice in discussions about the pedagogical changes being made due to Concordia’s current deficit. The student voice is vital in the restructuring process of university operations and academic programs.

Vote for ASFA Direct and vote for an exec team that prioritizes accountability, advocacy, democracy and community.

  • Hello, my name is Zineb Cherifi. My ethnicity as well as my religious background and my beliefs are irrelevant for this role. I promise to prove myself competent to the students and hope you guys will vote for me because of what I bring to the table and not because of my “diversity”. That would be an insult to my intellect and my abilities as a representative of the students. Thank you.

Equity and Executive Coordinator

  • My name is Grace-Amanda Jones, I’m an Undergraduate student in Honours English and Creative Writing, with an additional Major in Classics, and I am ASFA’s current Equity and Executive Coordinator.

This year, I am re-running for the position of Equity and Executive.

In addition to performing within my role at ASFA between 2023-2024, I’ve been an active ASFA member since the Fall of 2021, where I’ve previously acted as ASFA’s Consul, VP Internal and ASFA Councillor for the Concordia Classics Student Association, as well as a student representative on a number of committees.

I've also been a Teaching Assistant for the Classics department for three years, and have worked actively as a Union Organizer for Concordia’s Labour Union for TAs and RAs [CREW], which represents over 1800 student workers.

During this mandate, I balanced the administrative functions of the union, and supported the transition from non-Concordia staff positions to student focused employment.

If elected again as Equity and Executive Coordinator, I’d be excited to work on fostering community within my team, as well as between ASFA and its individual department associations; supporting MA execs so they can support students at large; and bottom-lining a large archive of institutional memory to support the sustainability of this union, so that future execs are able to enter their roles more smoothly.

Vote for ASFA Direct and vote for an exec team that prioritizes accountability, advocacy, democracy and community.

Finance Coordinator

  • Hi, my name is Ryan Assaker, student at the School of Community and Public Affairs, minoring in Law. I am running for the position of Finance coordinator. I’m running because of my extensive experience and commitment to our student community. In my first semester at Concordia, I took on the role of executive in my student association. This provided me with the opportunity to organize events and workshops for students in my program. In addition to event management, I established communications with ASFA, gaining valuable insights into their processes, including budget management and reimbursement procedures. This experience gives me the skills to manage finances effectively, a crucial aspect for a Finance Coordinator. Beyond this, I have been an active participant for the Pedestrianize Mackay movement. I held negotiations with the administration to advocate for student voices and further the movement’s goals, demonstrating my ability to represent student interests effectively. I am dedicated to upholding Concordia student rights and advocating for funding for our active campaigns, particularly in opposition to proposed tuition hikes but also divesting ASFA’s funds from RBC which has active investments in the fossil fuel industry. With my experience and dedication, I am confident in my ability to serve as your Finance Coordinator. I am committed to ensuring financial transparency, advocating for student rights, and working towards a financially secure and inclusive ASFA. I look forward to the possibility of serving you and making a positive impact on our community.

Internal Coordinator

  • My name is H. Ates Balsoy, I am a first year student specializing in Urban Planning and minoring in Human Environment, and I’m running for position of ASFA Internal Coordinator this year as a part of the ASFA Direct Slate.

I am currently serving as the VP of Social Affairs at GUSS (Geography Undergraduate Student Society), and a member of ASFA’s Council where I represent GUSS. Apart from these commitments, I’m also a member of the Academic, Student Life, and Internal Affairs and Policies Committees of ASFA, as well as UPA’s (Urban Planning Association) Mobilization Committee.

Throughout my current mandate at GUSS, I got the chance to experience the internal relations between ASFA, MA executives, and students. I hope to build upon ASFA’s relationship with their MA’s and create a more accessible, inclusive, and caring ASFA student body for every student where their voices can be heard by their MAs. If I get elected I will do my best to support every ASFA MA and student and advocate for their rights. I want ASFA to be a welcoming community for every student that we represent and make sure everyone feels included. It will also be my utmost importance to make sure every ASFA MA Executive is included and feels they belong in their student associations/societies. It will be a pleasure for me to make the relationship between ASFA, MAs, and students stronger.

Vote for ASFA Direct and vote for an executive team that prioritizes accountability, advocacy, democracy, and community.

Mobilization Coordinator

  • Hello, I'm Adam Semergian, a first-year student in the School of Community and Public Affairs, and I’m running for the position of ASFA Mobilization Coordinator. I’ve spent over three-year immersed in the Montreal's activist scene, which has been fueld by my dedication to grassroots mobilizing, on a variety of local and external societal issues. I'm deeply committed to enhancing mobilization efforts within ASFA and its Member Associations, especially amidst the recent surge in student activism at Concordia and more specifically within ASFA at all levels.

I have experience, ranging from being a spokesperson for the Dawson Green Earth Club and ASFA mobilization committee; where I mobilized for protests and strikes by tabling, class announcements, and managing/posting to our social media accounts. And coordinating communications strategy, writing policies, chairing and note taking for meeting of a so-called Quebec-wide student coalition, and that has equipped me with invaluable mobilization experience and connecting with student associations across “Quebec”.

As Mobilization Coordinator, I pledge to prioritize initiatives; such as getting the university to divest from its unethical holdings (war and fossil fuels), ensuring sustainable mobilization across all ASFA Member Associations, and reforming the ASFA electoral structure and by-laws for increased direct democracy and transparency. Additionally, I aim to revive defunct Member Associations, strengthen cooperation with our francophone counterparts, and facilitate an ASFA-wide Special General Meetings to amplify individual student voices and concerns.

I am eager to ensure that ASFA reflects the diverse voices and aspirations of our student body.

AHSCSA- Applied Human Sciences Student Association

President

  • "Greetings fellow AHSC students! My name is Jeeviga Kantapodi, a dedicated second-year Human Relations student, and your current VP External. As I stand before you for the third time in our election cycle, I'm not just seeking a position; I'm aspiring to be a beacon of change and unity as your next President of the Applied Human Sciences Student Association.

Reflecting on our shared journey, from the tremendous success of the networking event that brought students and alumni together, to our collective triumph in launching AHSC-specific hoodies and crewnecks, it's evident that our collective strength lies in unity and shared vision.

VP Marketing

  • Hello fellow Concordia Students!

My name is Grace Ericksen I am in my 2nd year at Concordia. I switched to AHSC Human Relations this year and I absolutely love the program! I am passionate about student life and have been involved in the student committee John Molson Competition Committee(JMCC) at JMSB for the past two years. I would love the chance to carry the leadership experience I have gained the past two years with me to AHSCSA. I am committed as VP Marketing to getting information out clear and fast to the student body of AHSC. I want to be as transparent and communicative with students as possible as well as a friendly face to chat with if anyone has questions. With experience from Marketing courses I have taken at JMSB and my time managing students in JMCC I believe I have the experience and knowledge for the VP Marketing Position. Thank you for your consideration! Happy voting!

  • Hello everyone! My name is Routh Sivagnanam, and I am in my third year of Human Relations, concentrating on individual and small-group development. I am currently the association's vice president of career events and have loved it. However, I am branching out to try something new to contribute to the association differently.

I decided to run for VP of marketing because of my previous experience in the field. I have previously worked with NGOs to promote events, workshops and services for them. I'd love to bring what I've learned to the association to raise awareness of what is available to you to reach your goals as a student in AHSC. In addition, I would like to increase the general public's knowledge of what applied human science is to other associations. I intend to put more effort and time into our social media platforms and create open communication with you to receive and improve on your feedback!

VP Careers

  • Hi everyone! My name is Isidora Fuenzalida, and I am in my second year of Human Relations. I am running for the position of VP Careers for the Applied Human Sciences Student Association (AHSCSA).

I am running for this position because I am passionate about organizing different opportunities for students to connect and create a stronger community together with career areas such as work and volunteering. I wish to help students through their career path and get more involved in our faculty.

A bit about me: I worked for Homeroom as a Student Facilitator for almost 3 years, working together with students and helping them transition in their first year at Concordia. Some of my goals are to get more people involved in student life, promote diversity and provide a safe space to develop meaningful connections.

If elected as VP Careers, I will plan networking events, in collaboration with other association members, to build stronger professional relationships and community, making sure students feel welcomed. I will be excited to be the voice of students and listen to your needs and suggestions.

Co-VP social

  • Hello, my name is Aditi Bappoo and I’m nominating myself for the Co VP social position. I believe that just like me, most of you wants to get to know other people and also explore what Concordia has got to offer us students. I will listen to all of you, I promise.

  • Hi! My name is Hope Primiani, and I am a 3rd year student in Therapeutic Recreation. I am running for the Co-VP Social for the AHSCSA. I am running for Co-VP social because I want to bring more spaces for students to socialize and connect, and as a student in TR, I would love to use my skills in organizing and planning leisure activities to facilitate this. As a TR student, I want to bring more representation of our program within the AHSC student association. My goal would be to create a safe space for students to connect outside of the classroom and foster positive student relations between the programs of AHSC.

BSA - Biology Student Association

President

  • Hello everyone,

My name is Isabella and I am entering my last year of cellular and molecular biology. My main goal as the president would be to increase the transparency between the BSA and the biology students. To achieve this, I will ensure that general assemblies at least once per semester. All students will be encouraged to participate by providing notice in advance of the dates and locations. These general assemblies are a place to receive feedback, suggestions for specific services, and details of our plans and budget.

Over the past two years, I have gained significant experience in being involved in student associations. In the 2022-2023 academic year, I held the VP of Social position in the Science College Student Association (SCSA). I learnt the importance of prioritizing organization and open communication within the team. Currently, I am filling the VP of External Affairs in the BSA. I emphasized on raising awareness about events like the 1989 Polytechnique femicide in Montreal, by distributing pamphlets adorned with white ribbons around the Loyola campus.

I feel a sense of responsibility for bringing awareness about topics that biology students aren't exposed to, such as the current humanitarian crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls (MMIWG). The indigenous causes have been neglected by society. Consequently, people are unaware of the past and current injustices experienced by these communities. As a student body, It is critical to acknowledge the unceded indigenous land we walk on at the Loyola campus.

    Looking forward to the opportunity,
    Isabella Ardila

VP Social

  • Hello Everyone !

I'm excited to introduce myself as a candidate for the Vice-President of Social Events for the Biology Student Association. While you may not know me personally, I've been working behind the scenes to enhance our campus experience.

As a first-year student navigating the halls of Loyola, I've discovered a passion for fostering community and creating memorable moments. Now, as a current executive of CUBCAPS, I'm eager to bring my expertise to the BSA.

My vision is simple: to ensure that our Loyola campus is brimming with engaging events and activities. With a focus on effective communication and collaboration, I aim to bridge the gap between student organizations and cultivate a vibrant social scene that caters to all interests.

CASE - Concordia Association for Students in English

President

VP Publications

  • Hi! I’m Morgan, and I’m a third-year student, pursuing a BA in Honours English and Creative Writing and a minor in Professional Writing. As my obnoxiously long program title suggests, I have my foot in every sub-section of the department. Like most of you, I am an avid reader (please send any fantasy-romance recommendations my way), and I have a passion for both cats and dumplings… almost equally.

I hope to join CASE as VP Publications to assist our amazing journals—LUCC, Pixie Literary, and Soliloquies—in their efforts to platform the department’s voices. Having been part of Pixie’s inaugural editing team, I’ve since spent the last year as Managing Editor for Print at Yiara Magazine. I will also be participating in the upcoming LUCC conference as a contributor. Working on both sides, I am lucky enough to have been a first-hand witness to the boldness, creativity, and academic talent we have in the English department, and I’m familiar with the ins-and-outs of the publication process. In addition to leading LUCC in its third iteration, I intend to be a helping hand for Editors-in-Chief and contributors alike as well as a liaison between the different journals.

My aspiration is to create a dynamic and inclusive environment where every student can inclusively learn German regardless of level. I am an aspiring polyglot with the basic knowledge of most European languages including: German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and French. As we are all connected through the internet in our modern era, we are exposed to all cultures and languages, making me an advocate for multilingualism.

Together, let us achieve multilingualism with German!"

COMS Guild - Communications Guild

Vice-President of Academic Events

  • I'm Leo Litke (he/him) and I will be going into my third year of study in the Communication and Cultural Studies program. Continuing as the VP of Academic Events, I will continue to organize the academic journal and conference and help coordinate the production vernissage, building upon my knowledge from this year. Additionally, aim to integrate the cultural studies program with the rest of the department through outreach to all students and ensure that all students feel represented in their academic events.

Vice-President of Social Affairs

  • As a first-year student in COMS and an almost 30-year-old ex event promoter and planner, I bring a fresh perspective and boundless enthusiasm to the table.

If elected, I am committed to making our student experience unforgettable by organizing a diverse array of engaging and inclusive social events. From paint and sip gatherings to lively games nights and cozy movie screenings, I aim to cater to a wide range of interests and preferences within our vibrant student community. Additionally, I'm excited to explore innovative event concepts such as drive-through movie nights, providing unique and safe experiences for all students to enjoy. I believe in constantly evolving and adapting to meet the dynamic needs of our diverse student body.

While I may be new to COMS, my background in event planning and my passion for fostering connections make me well-suited for this role. I have organized numerous successful events in the past, and I am eager to bring my skills to our student association to create memorable experiences for all. I am dedicated to serving our student body and creating an inclusive and vibrant social atmosphere that enhances our overall university experience.

Vice-President of Student Life

  • "My name is Janna Toubal, I'm in my first year of Communication Studies, and I'm applying for VP of Student Life of the COMS Guild. As your current Vice-President of Student Life, I have been mainly working on revamping the COMS Guild lounge in the CJ building. I've been working on making it known that it exists and is available for people to eat, relax, or study, and I have started to redecorate it in hopes of creating a cozy ambiance. Moving forward, not only will I continue working on the lounge, but I will also make the efforts to establish a better connection with my cohort and to be a solid link between the students and the Guild.

I'm always open for a conversation and I generally just love connecting with my classmates. I want to be somebody who people can come to if they have any issues, ideas, or anything concerning the Guild and our program, and I'm committed to making it happen!"

CRSA - Concordia Religion Student Association

President

  • Hello! My name is Eli Lysander (he/they) and I'm running for president. Our association has been active and energized this year and I hope to keep its momentum going. Together we can contribute to rebuilding a sense of community within our department. I want to make sure students are informed about decisions that affect them, and that their voices are heard. With tuition hikes affecting all of us, there's no better time to get involved.

VP Social

  • Hello, my name is Madeleine Rabinovitch and I am a third year student double majoring in English Literature and Religions and Cultures. As a student of both these faculties I’ve been able to compare and contrast the two departments and how they each tackle student life differently. I did not originally come to Concordia intending to study Religions and Cultures but I have since fallen in love with the department. I think that there is so much potential when it comes to better student social events within the program. I would firstly like to be able to update C.R.S.A’s social media platforms to make information more available to students. I also think the implementation of study groups and social gatherings amongst the faculty would also be a great addition to the student association. If you agree that our department deserves better social resources, vote for me!

CUPA - Concordia Undergraduate Psychology Association

VP Communications and Public Relations

  • Hey Psych students! My name is Emma and I’m very excited to announce my candidacy for VP of Communications for CUPA. As someone who is both genuinely passionate about Psychology and has plenty of real world marketing experience, I aim to bring enthusiasm and commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging departmental community for everyone. I feel that I am well-equipped to represent our student body and convey the unique opportunities within our department. If elected, I pledge to add an approachable, informational and also just plain old fun touch to our communications and social media channels, ensuring that every piece of important information can reach students in the ways they actually want to be reached. I propose the development of our departmental newsletter, including the important academic information and communications about social events (and as a graphic designer I promise not to use Canva). I want to grow our social media presence, driving CUPA to be more accessible, timely and open up dialogue with students, faculty and alumni at every level. I know that especially now, it’s incredibly easy to feel overwhelmed, overworked and underrepresented, but if given the opportunity, I know that each of these promises will help enable the creation of a more collaborative, responsive and equitable CUPA. A CUPA that I would be honoured to make silly little photoshops, filters and edits for. Vote Emma for VP of Communications.

  • "Hello Psych/Neuro students,

My name is Esther, I'm a third year psychology student. As Assistant VP Communications here at CUPA, I have learned the valuable skills of what it takes to make sure students are well-informed. As your fellow student, I know how chaotic student life can get, and how easy it is to get out of the loop. I believe it is every student's right to remain knowledgeable on what goes on in their department; nobody should be left in the dark. As a student body, it is important that we are all united in our faculty. My goal is to facilitate fun and effective strategies to keep students aware of all the events and resources available to them. I would love to make this a reality for all of you! "

VP External Affairs

  • As Maxi, an international student with a vibrant history in leadership, community engagement, and marketing innovation within my time at Concordia, I am thrilled to present my candidacy for VP of Social Affairs. My journey, from spearheaded high-profile event planning, to working as a brand ambassador for extreme sports events, has equipped me with a special blend of skills perfect for this role. I've learned the importance of creativity, inclusivity, and sustainability in development and coordinating with external organizations to build community.

My campaign is built on a foundation of creating events that not only entertain but also educate and even inspire. Drawing from my experience in event organizing, I plan to blend business experience with social engagement, whether it be through workshops, speaker series, and networking opportunities that cater to the varied interests within the Psychology undergraduate community. I find there to be a larger gap of community within the Loyola campus compared to it’s SGW counterpart, which could be reinforced through additional wellness and outdoor activities.

I pledge to run with transparency, seeking and answering any feedback to better shape a social calendar that reflects our collective interests. Your vote to me is a step toward a more connected, dynamic, and engaged student community for an unforgettable year!

ECEESA - Early Childhood and Elementary Education Student Association

President

  • My name is Sofia Leiva and I am in the Early Childhood and Elementary Education program. I have worked with children aged 3 to 14 in various academic and non-academic settings. I have a passion for education, especially with children with learning disabilities. I am currently a substitute teacher for the CSSMI and I hope to pursue a masters in speech language pathology after I finish this program. My goals are to ensure that all students in the ECEE program have all the resources needed at their disposal to pursue their goals. To do this, I intend on creating an Instagram account where students can easily access information about upcoming events like seminars that can expand their knowledge on topics such as diversity, learning disabilities, women empowerment, current issues in education, and inclusive education. Furthermore, I want to bring in professionals from different backgrounds such as education, psychology, global studies, and more to give talks that can provide useful and interesting insight and information. Finally, I want to bring education specific job fairs to Concordia to allow for networking and connections to form between potential employers and students.

ESS - Economics Student Society

President

  • Dear Economics Students,

My name is Pierre-Olivier Cormier and I have been the President of the Economics Student Society for the past year. During that time, I’ve had the chance to organize successful activities with the help of my team such as social gatherings and Alumni talks and I look forward to continuing my work and creating opportunities! Also, since the beginning of the winter semester, three economics students and I have been supervising the first undergraduate research project for economics students. Looking at the success of this project, it is with excitement that I can announce that the research project will go on for its second edition during the next academic year!

I am delighted to run again for this position and if re-elected, I promise to organize even more social and academic events while also focusing on creating new projects!

VP Communications

  • Hi, I'm Rita Touati and I'm a candidate for the VP Communications position in Economics. It’s currently my first year as an economics student and in my time at Concordia, I realized the importance of being aware of what’s happening on campus and especially in our department. The school offers many events that can really be helpful to us, undergrad students. Although emails make us aware of what’s happening, we tend to be more on social medias, at least for most students. The accounts made by the school keep us constantly updated. If I were to get the position, I would put my 100% into this position and stay on track with current events happening in our department so that the students don't miss out on great opportunities and just know what's going on in their program.

VP External

  • Dear fellow students,

As an economics student, with a passion for community engagement I am announcing my candidacy for the VP External position within ESS. Having recently served as the VP Administration for the ESS during the 2024 winter semester, I am now poised to further cultivate my abilities in a new role.

As a committed person with a discerning eye for detail and precision, I intend to assume the responsibilities of acting as a liaison beyond our department. By forging meaningful connections with fellow student organizations and industry professionals, I aspire to broaden the horizons of opportunities available to our peers. I firmly believe that through diligent coordination and transparency, our association can adeptly respond to the evolving needs of economic students.

Let’s work together to make the Economic Student Society an association that enhances your university experience!

VP Finance

  • My name is Charles-Etienne, but most people call me Charlie. I’m a third-year student in the honours program. I’ve had the great pleasure of serving the economics student body as VP academics over the last year. In this position, I’ve discussed with the chair of our department issues that I’ve heard students bring up. Things like there not being continuity in the statistical tools used in 324, 421, and 422, or then again the lack of research opportunities for undergraduates. On that last point, me and with a few peers took matters in our own hands by launching EconomicSense an undergraduate economics research journal. This project matches undergrads with experienced supervisors from academia or industry to support them in their writing process. If I get elected again, I would like to expand on this project and give more students the chance to gain real research experience, which is invaluable for further studies in economics. As VP finance I would oversee the financial resources of your student association making sure we have the funds necessary to give you the chance to participate in interesting events and projects. I look forward to the opportunity of serving you once again.

VP Internal

  • Warm Greetings, my name is Maxime Faucher I am a History Major student currently in my third year with, German Language and Culture studies. As a passionate advocate for student empowerment and academic excellence, I am honoured to announce my candidacy for the position of Internal Affairs of Concordia German Language Student Association (CGLSA). My aspiration is to create a dynamic and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. I am aiming to create a group that can appreciate and acknowledge german culture. Additionally, I am committed to promoting cultural exchange abroad, and to provide practical skills for future success for those who want to study elsewhere. By these ambitions I wish to provide students with the means necessary to study German language and potentially study abroad. Together, we can complete the tasks necessary to get to where we want to be and empower every student to reach their full potential.

  • Dear fellow students,

My name is Elsa Rufenacht, and as your current Vice-President of Internal Affairs, I am excited to announce my nomination to continue my position in 2024 and support the department of Economics and its Student Society.

In this role, I improved communication strategies and planned events within our internal team, ensuring that all members were advised about important updates. Executive Emeritus

  • Hey everyone!

I'm excited to announce my candidacy for executive emeritus. Having been a part of this association for 2 years now, I know all there is to know about the functioning of the association.

During my time here, I've had the privilege of planning social events from A to Z, organizing alumni talks, creating Instagram posts and developing informative documents about the ESS. But I'm not stopping there. I'm eager to establish a committee that will allow more students to actively participate in our association's matters.

As an exec emeritus, my mandate is to provide institutional knowledge to the team and support them during their mandate, which I am confident about.

I am always available by email to serve our student body, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas you may have.

    Thank you for your support!

GUSS - Geography Undergraduate Student Society

Academic Affairs Coordinator

  • Hi! My name is Cory. I am currently in my second year at Concordia, majoring in Human Environment. I love learning, and am a huge geography nerd. Over the past year I have been part of the GUSS mobilization committee, and now I would like to do my part as an executive to ensure that all geography students have a positive and enriching academic experience. My goal is to be an approachable and reliable executive who is always listening and making sure the needs of all geography students are met, both in academics and beyond. I want every member of our department to feel included and represented by our union, and to break down existing barriers to education so that everyone can succeed. I also believe that GUSS can and should be both fun and politically engaged, and will support initiatives on campus such as Divest Coalition, BDS, and the fight for free education.

I am running with the slate GUSSroots.

Communications Coordinator

  • My name is Ava Moyes; I am a second-year Human Environment student minoring in Interdisciplinary Studies in Sexuality. I am running alongside JohnNathaniel, Cory and Clara as a part of GUSSroots. I will take an anti-colonial and anti-oppressive approach to my role as Communications Coordinator, which considers the many intersecting identities within the GUSS community. I’m excited to apply my experience in graphic design (some of those posts you see on the GUSS insta… Ya I made those :P) and grassroots community organizing to my role as Comms(..) Coord(..). I believe that student organizing empowers people to actively shape their communities and advocate for necessary change. I am eager to learn from and help create an inclusive and fun space for my peers.

Community Outreach Coordinator

  • Coucou!

My name is John Nathaniel, or JN (he/him) and I'm running with the GUSSroots slate!

Just a wee bit about myself: I'm headed into my fourth and (hopefully) last year at Concordia. I've lived in Tiohtiake-Mooniyang (""Montreal"") my life and I care deeply about nourishing community rooted in social justice wherever I go in this city. When I'm not doing community organizing, or at school, you can find me playing basketball, growing veggies with co-op CultivAction and being silly with friends!

I bring five years of experience in community organizing across the city and in the CEGEP and university student movement, and three years of experience being involved in student unions at Concordia. I think my connections to people and organizations within Concordia, and across the city, in English and French, will serve me well to continue to do outreach for GUSS.

I’m really excited about the idea of being re-elected in my role with a brand-new team of young geography students. I’m ready to embrace my role as GUSS-elder and offer some institutional memory so we aren’t always stuck starting from a blank slate!
I’m super proud of the work GUSS has done this past year! We are one of the most democratically, politically and socially active member’s associations at Concordia. Some highlights for me have been the AGITATE Teach-in, our party at Le Frigo Vert, and creating a vibrant student space on the 12th floor. I’m confident we can continue this work with the GUSSroots slate!

    Vote for GUSSroots!

Finance Coordinator

  • Hey! I’m Clara, a first year human environment student. I’m running for GUSS because I want GUSS to be representative of all of you and continue to be an active student organization! I believe in the power of student associations to build community and bring change and hope that GUSS can achieve that. Over the past few years, I’ve been active in different student organizing circles, mainly surrounding climate justice and access to education. I’ve also been a part of the GUSS mobilization committee since the fall and I now want to bring my experience to the table as a coordinator for the association. I’m running as part of the GUSSroots team for the position of finance coordinator with the aim of keeping information about GUSS transparent and accessible. I want to be a reliable source of information about what’s going on at the association and do my part to make GUSS approachable and inclusive to you all. Hopefully in my position as finance coordinator I can be someone you can trust to represent you and someone that makes university life more fun :)

If elected as a first-year Representative, my focus will be on organizing study sessions to assist those struggling with their coursework. I will ensure transparent and regular updates on decisions affecting our cohort, facilitating a two-way conversation between the student body and faculty. Sincerely,

    Ryan Michon

  • Hi, I'm a 3rd year political science student. Previously I was the president of the CPS and this year I've had the pleasure to sit on CSU council. I have some experience with bookkeeping and would like to learn a bit more. I hope to contribute to the smooth operations of the PSSA.

  • My name is Gerlando Guarraggi. I am a Political Science student at Concordia in my second year. My time at Concordia has been interesting to say the least. I learn more and more everyday of the great institution that is our school. I want to contribute to student life in any meaningful way that I can. Holding the position of Finance Coordinator would be a great honour. Over the past year, I have worked in the financial sector as a personal advisor at TD Canada Trust. I will bring my experience to this role and improve the position of the PSSA and its standing within ASFA. I will also work to the best of my ability to maintain transparency and fairness. This will be my priority as Finance Coordinator for the PSSA. Thank you for considering me, Gerlando Guarraggi as the PSSA Financial Coordinator. Thank you.

External Affairs Coordinator

  • Having worked with the CSU, and being a student in the Poli. Sci program for some 2 years, I have come to notice that there have been challenges to the communication between students and the student governing bodies. With turbulent times ahead I believe my skills and experience as well as my humble roots as a student with similar plights as others can bring a fresh perspective that will lead a committee like the PSSA to better its communication and directionality. Further, I hope to bring a louder voice to the political science program and reignite the dwindling flame found in political participation in the program. As an external coordinator, it's important to bring new and fresh perspective and allow the PSSA to not only continue its good work but expand its reach to better fit the needs of all students. My background in marketing, debate and personal relations gives me, what I believe, are the proper tools to undertake this task. Additionally, an understanding of the inner structure of the unions has given me connections that facilitate the process of benefiting the students. Overall, my mission is to be accessible to the students and to hopefully bring both the PSSA and the political science students closer.

  • As the VP of External Affairs, my aim is to insulate Political Science students from the financial cuts which will follow the CAQ’s tuition hikes. This will be done through a process of securing multiple new sponsorships from those receptive to our current situation, working to ensure effective spending practices, and providing increasingly democratic processes in which students are able to make clear their wishes in regards to sponsorships. These efforts will allow the PSSA to more effectively act in accordance with student will as non-executive voices will be amplified. It is of the utmost importance for the executive board to act in accordance with student wishes as a slew of potential sponsors have been linked to destructive, climate-harming, and colonial practices. It is through the amplification of student voices that together we can create a fair, insulated, and effective student union.

  • I am Joy and I would be thrilled to represent Concordia University as the coordinator for External Affairs for the PSSA!

Apart from being a third-year student majoring in Political Science, I am also part of the Concordia External Delegation, which has given me a good grasp of external affairs and diplomacy, equipping me to handle complex issues and represent our university with style and professionalism.

As a candidate, I am dedicated to boosting our current sponsorships and landing more external funding, all while being your PSSA represent with outside organisations. By nurturing these partnerships, we can set up tremendous events for our faculty's students and team up with like-minded organizations. My goal is to build strong connections with external stakeholders, amplify student voices, and lead initiatives that enrich our university community. I am all about transparency, collaboration and I am committed to prioritizing advocating for our faculty to elevate our external relations successfully.

I believe that a solid political science faculty starts with a vibrant association that promotes representation, community, and opportunity. As Coordinator of External Affairs, I will make sure to stick to these values and make sure we students have a platform to speak up, connect with external partners, and grab awesome opportunities for growth. I have so many ideas that I cannot wait to share with you! Let's work together to strengthen the ties between our university and external stakeholders, creating a lively and supportive vibe for everyone at Concordia.

Academic Coordinator

  • Serving as VP Academics for the past year, I will merge my experience as a student, as an executive, and as a professional to provide the Political Science student body with a representative that puts their protection, their dignity, and their success first. My goals in my next term would be to:

    - Continue working with the department and the university to develop an AI usage policy and incorporate the new technological reality in curriculums. This will at once protect students from false plagiarism accusations and merge student-professor interests

    - Continue to provide materials with a decolonizing lens to the current curriculums and encourage events with marginalised voices to lean into the diversity of our student body

    - Develop clearer strategies and policies for students to receive information on course offerings, program requirements, and academic rights

    - Plan career and networking events and disseminate career-oriented information to better prepare students who do not want to continue their studies or are having trouble deciding what higher degree to pursue

    - Encourage interdisciplinary conversations and provide hands-on guidance for issues regarding student needs and the future of higher education

    - Encourage and guide student-led groups with pedagogical focus to foster community and respect within our student body

With my credentials including work with the UN, other higher education institutions, and local non-for-profits, I hope to be an informed and grounded voice for the student body.

    I will put Students First.

Marketing Coordinator

  • Hi my name is Ovidiu (he/him). I am 21 years old and after graduating from CEGEP I went on a humanitarian mission to Calgary where I helped people build houses, cook community brunch and participate in many cultural native activities. After two years I came back home and married my high school sweetheart! I play hockey, video games, read books and love to do volunteer work. My plans for the campaign are simple but primordial for student life.

I will work hard to help students access information quickly and easily by creating social media posts and updating information on our website. I realize that going on a website to find information is time consuming and hard in general, thus I will prioritize social media and try to find new ways to reach the general public easier. I want our students to be aware of any ways that they can benefit from or of. Things like loans and bourses from the government, how to apply, what benefits we as students have, healthcare. All this information is crucial to making our lives as students easier and that is what my campaign is about.

I will also look into new collaborations for Concordia students so that we can indulge in better deals, helping you save money and again make life easier.

Choose to make your life easier by voting Ovidiu.

Student Life Coordinator

  • Having worked as PSSA’s Student Life Coordinator for the past three months, as well as having two years of experience in youth mentorship, I have a high level of competence in event organization and leadership. In light of my background in intercultural communication, having grown up between Tunisia and Canada, I am committed to bringing out Concordia’s vibrant and diverse student culture in PSSA’s events. Some initiatives I plan to launch are as follows:

    - Professional development and career events such as a networking potluck dinner with alumni;

    - A clothing swap event, meeting the interests of our large fashion and eco-conscious community;

    - More art-focused nights similar to this year’s Sip n’ Paint;

    - Cultural events;

    - And of course, the ever-popular parties for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and St Patrick’s Day, as well as organizing the anticipated 2025 PSSA Gala.

As your Student Life Coordinator, I am dedicated to building a strong community in Concordia’s undergraduate Political Science program, encouraging students to participate in and take advantage of these PSSA events, which will not only provide a window into the real-world application of our courses, but ultimately create an engaging student life for all.

Equity Councillor

  • I am a second year student in Political Science and I highly value integrity and fairness. I believe people should be at the center of decisions and that in order to be a great representative you need to show warmth and openness to diverse groups of people and to different perspectives and ideas.

The PSSA has been organizing a plethora of events that allow students to connect to experts in their own fields, to gain insight and discernment and to become better informed players and changemakers in society. Included throughout the year are also fun activities that aim to foster friendships in the community. I would like to have the chance to contribute in giving life to more of such opportunities to my peers in the year to come.

My strong attributes include being analytical and meticulous but also being empathetic and emotionally intelligent. My most relevant and recent experience as a leader has been being the VP of Operations at the ENGCOMM case competition. Constant improvement is one of my main personal goals. This means betterment of myself in terms of skills and also as an individual.

The field of political science aims to reach better understanding of how the big and the small forces of the world interact and come to be. Students of our program have the chance to gain awareness and strength through who they chose as leaders, and I hope they will fully take advantage of it.

ASFA Councillor

  • "Hi! I’m Konrad Johannesson, and I’m running for PSSA’s ASFA Councillor. I'm in my second year of Political Science and I have experience in political organizing, recently running for Co-President of Canada’s Young New Democrats in October of 2023 with the NDP Socialist Caucus. I have been active in multiple local Montreal political organizations, as well as being a founding member of PSSFP (Political Science Students for Palestine). If elected I intend to:

Place pressure on the Concordia administration to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Israel for its ongoing occupation in Palestine and the genocide in Gaza.

Change ASFA into not only a form of student representation, but further utilize it as a tool for political change in Quebec.

Continue Concordia students progressive history through mobilizations, sit-ins, and protests.

Prioritize accessibility and safety for ASFA members with disabilities.

Place pressure on Concordia administration to increase accessibility and funding for the Psychological and Counseling Services.

Ensure sustained increases in funding for student organizations, initiatives, and research.

Create and enhance solidarity with other student organizations in Montreal, Quebec, and all of Canada.

Empower ASFA members through militant student unionism.

These are all issues which ASFA needs to more greatly address. We have the ability to create concrete change in these matters, with the right initiative. Vote for me and I will do everything in my ability to initiate these changes!

    "

  • As a third-year Political Science student running for the ASFA coordinator position, I am eager to represent the PSSA and foster stronger ties with ASFA.

My goal as ASFA coordinator is to serve as an accessible link between the PSSA and ASFA, ensuring open communication and collaboration between the two entities.

As a student who has become increasingly disillusioned with the current executive team, I am committed to utilizing this role to channel efforts and resources towards grassroots initiatives on campus. I firmly believe in mobilizing PSSA members to engage actively and contribute to the association's affairs, ensuring a democratic process where all voices are heard.

I am excited about the opportunity to facilitate coordination across departments and promote broader campus engagement.

SASU - Sociology and Anthropology Student Association

General Coordinator

  • Hola! My name is Juliana, and I am running for the position of General Coordinator for SASU.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself: I am my beginning my third year of university in the fall semester 2024 as an Anthropology Honours student. Some of my academic interests involve Indigenous rights, Irish studies, and exploring artistic anthropological methodologies. However, I also enjoy biology and I plan to purse studies in forensics and cultural anthropology. Some of my hobbies include sports like Ice skating and basketball, but I also love to play piano and paint in my free time.

Some of my previous experience with student life in Concordia include being a Project Manager Out-Reach for Project Instep and being the current SASU general coordinator (in position since February 2024). I plan to continue participating in Concordia’s student life for next year and I would love to continue working with my current SASU Team and we are excited to run as SASU Radical Collective Team for this 2024-2025 Elections. Our values as a team include representation, advocacy, and justice.

As a SASU General Coordinator, I will oversee all day-to-day activities of our union in order to ensure that all internal members of our team feel supported in their tasks. Doing so I commit to cover all bases of our operations: from planning logistics at events, helping all our coordinators plan their strategies and achieve their goals, to representing the voices of all Anthropology and Sociology students. I am confident I will excel at doing everything this position requires me to do, and more.

As General Coordinator, I will commit to work hard alongside my teammates to ensure that our union becomes the student representation that you deserve to have, to make sure you have the best memories, experiences and interactions through your university year.

Academic Coordinator

  • "Team SASU Radical Collective is made up of a group of committed students who have been working together to incite important change in the Sociology and Anthropology Union. As a collective we believe in mobilization to make radical change, using the resources we have to allow student voices to be heard and advocating for equity justice and progress, in and outside of Concordia University.

Hello everyone, I am Juliana, (she/her) the smiley one! I am majoring in Anthropology and minoring in First Peoples Studies and Biology! As an Academic Coordinator I will advocate for your rights and be at the forefront to represent your voices in the department. I believe in pedagogies of resistance that allow students to connect beyond a classroom and tune with the world. What a better place to start building communities than in our own department! I stand for free education and hence will be emphasizing the need to prioritize students and not profit. Taking action outside of the classroom has allowed me to connect with other realities and build relationships with other student associations, which is one of the main reasons why I am running again for this position. Coalitions will allow us to build stronger movements that can enhance a sense of solidarity, justice and action. I believe in radicalizing education and centering embodied experiences in academia. Hope to build community with you all! :)"

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s honour degree in Anthropology with a minor in Diversity and Contemporary World with the Loyola Sustainability College. My anthropology studies have created a profound passion and appreciation for the complexities of human societies and cultures, as well as a desire to contribute positively to a diverse community. Last year I participated in a year long exchange in France where I enjoyed immersing myself and learning from a completely new environment. I have been involved in varous sustainability initiatives with the Conocrdia Greenhouse and worked as a Human Resources Assistant with Statistics Canada. These experiences have equipped me with strong communication skills, organizational abilities and a collaborative mindset, which are essential for the role of Communications Coordinator. I have been running the SASU social media page for the past three months and would welcome the opportunity to continue creating instagram posts that foster my values of sustainability, equity and making sure everyone’s voice matters!

As Communications Coordinator, I plan to increase awareness of societal issues through workshops and social media resources that educate students about current sociocultural and poltical events. I promise to maintain open communication channels about academic and community engagement initiatives that will allow students to apply knowledge to real-world challenges within local communities. I will address student feedback, concerns, and ideas through meaniful action and advocacy. I would like to organize interdisciplinary events to bring together students from various departments as well as arrange a series of talks in the field of anthropology and sociology.

I look forward to the opportunity to represent you as your Communications Coordinator.

I’m Raven! I’m the financial coordinator at Team SASU Radical Collective. I briefly studied both the liberal and fine arts at UPEI and NBCCD, however it is my first year studying Sociology at Concordia. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of the remarkable community not only on campus but within our department. We believe in our ability as a collective to expand on our roles and grow together. Off the clock I read, paint, and write polemics. I have a deep vested interest in the relationship between art and sociology, art’s potential to enrich our cultural landscape, and inspire class consciousness. I am eager to continue collaborating with our team to advocate for our fellow students, and to develop an even greater sense of solidarity on campus. As financial coordinator I am committed to ensuring the transparent and equitable management of funds. In addition to supervising budget allocations and aiding the management of expenses I intend to nurture an understanding of financial literacy. I am dedicated to supporting student lead initiatives and ensuring every resource is utilised effectively to enliven the student experience.

VP External

  • My name is Adam Garcia and I am a third year double major (anthropology and sociology) student. I feel that I am well-fitted to have a place in the student government as I represent the student body that SASU represents very well and am very fond of the program. As VP of external, I want to help integrate the student government into the student body by spreading awareness of the power you have as an individual student. With recent striking events, the student population is growing more aware of the student government, and through fun events and gatherings, we could make our image as the student representatives more akin to what the students want to see!

As a collective, we believe in mobilization to make radical change, using the resources we have to allow students voices to be heard and advocating for equity, justice and progress, in and outside of Concordia University.

As the SfM coordinator, I want to uplift the literary and creative talents at Concordia to effect positive change. I believe art and activism are interconnected. I want a platform that gives the boundless imagination of young artists form and purpose, by directing creative energy into passionate causes for social change. I want students to be bold enough to believe their art has a place in this world, and that their voice carries weight.

SFM Editor-in-Chief

  • My name is Chloe Marchal, I am a double major in Honours Anthropology and Intermedia and I strive to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration in these fields! As a fourth-year anthropology student my passions include visual anthropology, digital culture, visual media and sustainability of digital infrastructure. I believe in participatory research which honours and uplifts the voices that aren’t usually heard, for example student opinions in AI design (my current undergrad thesis). As a queer woman of colour I am committed to raising awareness and celebrating other queer voices of colour in the university setting, which I currently strive to do as Editor-in-Chief of Stories from Montreal. My goal is to facilitate dialogue and foster community for diverse voices in the area of research creation, whether that is through running events such as workshops, or sharing resources. As an artist, I also hope to create a space for fellow SASU students who are looking to express their research in ways that are more engaging and accessible than the traditional essay format. I believe in equal access and opportunity to resources and education, and hope that we can take down the tuition hikes. I am proud to be part of team SASU for Winter 2024. SCPASA - School of Community and Public Affairs Student Association

Academic Affairs and Advocacy Secretary

  • As a first year student in SCPASA, I am inspired by the commitment that everyone has put into the student association. I want to be able to share the resources available to Concordia students, and to be able to advocate for us with our professors. I will be a good fit for this role because I have had a lot of experience working with administration. In highschool I was involved with all events for my grade, and was able to ensure that all my peers were happy. I really want to be involved with SCPASA in a meaningful way, and I will do my best to fulfill the legacy of previous people in this role :)

Communications Secretary

  • In this political climate it is important to ensure that the nature of our social activities as a department closely align with our strong values currently at risk. As an association, we have fought against the threats of increasing tuition, building a compelling and powerful activist community. Throughout the history of the student movement, popular education has proven to be the backbone of this activism. I pledge to be a proactive advocate for improved communication strategies and popular education. I promise to creatively highlight our morals as a department, fostering a cohesive and well informed environment.

  • As the communications secretary of the SCPASA, I want to keep the students informed of the activities and actions of the SCPASA in order to maintain and strengthen the feeling of community that exists within the program.

Executive Secretary

  • My name is Sam Gold; I'm wrapping up my second year in the SCPA and also my second year as a secretary at SCPASA. Over the past two years I've filled a number of roles; in my first year I held the title of First-Year Representative, I began this year as Community Outreach Secretary, and have (since our last General Assembly) been serving as Interim Executive Secretary. Over these two years as part of the team, I've done my best to get to know all of you (SCPA students) as best I can and, correspondingly, get to know the Student Association as best I can. As Interim Executive Secretary (and in my other roles), I've begun to familiarize myself with the institutional and bureaucratic mechanics of the Student Association, and am now quite comfortable managing its relationship with ASFA and administration. Should I be reelected, I would bring the efficiency and know-how necessary to ensure SCPASA functions as smoothly and as effectively as possible in its acitivist initiatives.

Finance Secretary

SCSA - Science College Student Association

Co-President

  • Hi everyone, my name is Rebecca and I am a 2nd year biochemistry student. I am running to be your SCSAs Co-President for the 2024-2025 academic year. So far, I’ve spent three quarters of my days at scol, so it has become a home to me. So I would love the opportunity to give back and be the next Co-President. As co-president, I will listen to fellow scolies and offer them what they need in order to improve the Science College and make it a safe and enjoyable environment.

VP Finance

  • I have been a Science College student since 2017 and am truly passionate about bridging the gap between disciplines. As a Computer Science student, I believe I bring a unique skill set that I hope to use for our collective benefit. My strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and love of numbers make me an excellent candidate for the position of VP Finance. I truly believe I can ensure responsible stewardship of our funds that can maximize everyone's enjoyment. In particular, I want to have more fundraising events such as used textbooks and equipment sales, and bake sales. I am confident that this will bring us extra funds that we can use for more activities and a better environment (late-night snacks, anyone?). Lastly, I also want to use my computer skills to enhance our online communication: I want to revive our Discord service and make it a place where we can easily find resources and connect with each other. Let's have a year of (financially responsible) fun!

  • Greetings! I am Rober Helal, a second-year Biology student, and a candidate for the VP Finance position for the 2024-2025 term in the SCSA. As an integral team member of the SCSA, I will work diligently with other SCSA members to understand and allocate spending within each event category, ensuring that all events receive adequate funding to make them successful. My detail-oriented approach will guarantee that the budget is carefully distributed, prioritizing the Science College's events in order of importance. I am committed to upholding my responsibilities as VP Finance given my strong work ethic, effective time management, meticulous budgeting skills, and passion for teamwork. With my skills and dedication, I am confident that I can provide unparalleled support to the SCSA financially.

ASFA Councillor

  • Hello! My name is Alyssa and I'm a first year in Biochemistry. I'm running for the position of ASFA Councillor for SCSA. As Councillor, I will act as the link between both student associations. I promise to represent the students of SCSA and speak on their behalf at ASFA council meetings.

  • Hello,

My name is Cynthia Comeau, and I am excited to run for Councillor in our student association. I’m currently studying in Specialization Psychology and as a first-year student, I balance student life with my part-time job at a CRO company called Altasciences. I’ve been trying to get involved with student life by volunteering in the CAHD and the Montreal Fluency Centre, for which these experiences have taught me time-management skills and have further motivated me to get more involved with our science college community.

As your representative, I will be a strong advocate for your needs and priorities both within the association and in broader campus discussions. I'm often found within the Science College study rooms, making it easy for students to locate me in person and share any worries if needed. My main goal is to be a readily available resource for my fellow students and to make the following academic year enjoyable.

I aim to facilitate collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and administration to effectively address campus challenges and implement impactful solutions. Furthermore, I aim to increase student engagement and involvement in campus activities by organizing events, workshops, and seminars that cater to a diverse range of interests and backgrounds. By creating opportunities for students to connect with one another and pursue their passions outside of the classroom, we can foster a stronger sense of community and belonging.

SDSA - Sustainability and Diversity Student Association

President

  • When I was elected during the last by-elections, I promised that I would revive the SDSA from a 2-year hiatus and bring social and academic events back to our student body. Since then, I have facilitated a full slate of students joining the executive group of the SDSA who are working tirelessly to make the most out of the last month and a half of the semester. If elected, I will work with these same members at continuing to build a community around our student body and allow us to hit the ground running in the summer and make the most of the two 12-week semesters.

VP Communications

  • Hi! I'm a 4th year Sustainable Management and Sustainability Studies student who would love to be the VP Communications of the SDSA for another term. I am really passionate about getting students involved in school life outside of school and getting everyone's voices heard. I have already served as the VP Communications for one semester and would love the chance to keep doing what I'm doing, serving the Sustainability and Diversity community as best I can!

I envision forging stronger ties with local organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to implement comprehensive initiatives that address the diverse needs of our community. Advocacy for sustainability and corporate social responsibility will be at the forefront, promoting eco-friendly practices, ethical sourcing, and responsible decision-making.

In terms of campaign promises, I assure transparent and accountable leadership coupled with regular updates and clear communication. Furthermore, I am dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space where empathy guides our decision-making, fostering an environment where every member feels valued and heard.

Vote Zariah Williams for VP External – your advocate for sustainability, diversity, and positive change.

    · Diversity is our strength. I will advocate for equitable distribution of funds across various student groups, clubs, and events.

    · Financial decisions should empower marginalized voices, promote cultural awareness, and foster an inclusive campus environment.

    Green Investments:

    · Our association’s investments matter. I propose exploring environmentally conscious investment options. Let’s prioritize companies and projects that align with sustainability goals.

    · By doing so, we can contribute to positive change while maintaining financial stability.

    Sincerely,

    Zoe Erika-Okoye 🌟🌿"

SHAC - Students in History at Concordia

Communications Coordinator

  • Students of history, let me communicate with you! I am running as communications coordinator because I believe that members associations and student unions should be as accessible to students as possible. If elected, I will make sure that your questions are always answered, and your concerns are always addressed. I believe in the potential of an organized student body, and I will work hard to build community among history students. SHAC represents us, I want to make sure as many of us as possible are represented.

Social Events Coordinator

  • Hello folks!

My name is Isabelle (she/her), I am an undergraduate student majoring in history. I am applying for the student life coordinator of SHAC. I started university just when the pandemic disrupted our lives, so I know what it is like to feel isolated from campus and student life.

This is why I want to give future history students (and current, of course) a space to meet new people alike. This could mean trivia nights, movie nights, bar, museum hangouts, and more! I would also love to provide for international students the opportunity to really get to know Montreal and its history with sightseeing tours around the city. There is a possibility of collaborations with other student associations as well!

Vote for me if you want a vibrant student life with history buffs!

  • I am a 2nd year History major from New Brunswick, and chose Concordia due to my academic interests in public and oral history, as well as a general love of Montreal. As Social Events Coordinator for SHAC, I would like to work on strengthening the sense of community in our department that can often feel so vast, especially for underclassmen taking 200 level classes spanning up to 90 students from a variety of departments. This could be through activities like drop-in study groups to get through your readings and meet your classmates, a department discord server, group outings to museums or historic sites, continuing the reggie's trivia nights, an event to learn about careers in history and the paths to getting to them, and maybe even a party or two. I would welcome outside input and ideas as well; we are all part of SHAC and this is our university experience to define.

UPA - Urban Planning Association

President

  • Like the structure of urban areas, connection between communities and building resilient social structures within our university is necessary in forming future leaders. Cultivating these spaces outside of our classrooms will decentralize us from hubs of stress and ultimately support a student body you can be proud of. I have learnt a lot as President of the UPA over the past year, and I wish to carry those lessons forward into a time where effective leadership is needed more than ever. We need democratic organization within all forms of government. The students, united, we will never be defeated!

VP Academic

  • After serving a term as VP Finance of the UPA, I am seeking re-election as a UPA executive, this time as VP Academic. This year, serving on University Senate and CSU Academic Caucus as a student-at-large gave me invaluable insight into the workings of the academic side of the university, working with administrators, CSU and, and ASFA executives. This opportunity, as well as being in UPA, also allowed me to meet and connect with hundreds of students within our department, faculty, and abroad. Most recently, I served as an interim for UPA VP Academic in December 2023, where I continue to represent the association at department meetings with faculty, and disseminate information to students from every level of academic governance.

  • Hi, I am irtaza hussain, specializing in urban planning and I’m running for VP academic! You should elect me because I care deeply about our future and how our classes come to shape our professional knowledge.

My focus is on making sure that academic concerns of students are heard and considered by the faculty. I am committed to creating a more engaging learning experience by advocating for a wider range of courses and implementing practical components that complement our career preparation.

VP Communications

  • Throughout my professional and undergraduate career as an educator, organizer and coordinator, I have completed an array of educational and cultural projects. Most of the projects were either organized, managed or coordinated by myself and a team.

I have extensive experience in various professional fields related to art, marketing and interdisciplinary projects. Therefore, allowing me to develop my skills in writing and visual communication. I have been involved in extracting, organizing, and summarizing research data and as well as developing marketing strategies in the field of arts, urban planning, community engagement and culture.

  • Hi! I'm Mowat, a first-year Urban Studies student and organizer, running for Vice President of Communications at the UPA. I first became involved in student associations during the fall semester, when I joined the mobilization efforts against the proposed tuition hikes and the pedestrianization of Mackay Street. Recently, I was elected co-VP of mobilization for the UPA in a General Assembly and am very excited at the prospect of continuing as an executive into my second year! As someone who became involved with the UPA before I even was in the program (it certainly played a part in making my decision to switch programs easier), I value the association's welcoming attitude and open-door policy, and would love to act as the primary point of contact between its executives and members, as well as other associations. With experience in coordination and the design of promotional materials, I will work to ensure strong communication between the UPA and its membership. I, finally, will strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for all URBS students, and maintain the UPA's position as a leader in current student movements. I can often be found in the office (H-1238); but this week, I'll be on the picket lines! Feel free to ask me anything :)

VP Student Life

  • Hi! My name is Eve and I'm super excited to be running for VP of Student Life. What draws me to Urban Studies is passion and dedication for improving and enriching community life. I would love to bring that energy to this role!

I know it sounds totally cheesy, but let me just say that connection is obviously SUCH an important ingredient in the recipe for looking back on our university experience with fondness (and hopefully limited cringe). I am also a strong believer that amazing experiences can happen juuuuust outside of our comfort zones. If elected, I promise I would embrace the privilege of working behind the scenes to foster these valuable experiences.

  • Hello, I'm Annie and I'm running to be your UPA VP of student life! In hopes of amplifying student involvement in the UPA, I want to introduce some new, creative ideas for social events as well as bringing back the events we know and love. To add onto urban planning trivia and small socials, I'd LOVE to introduce pie the urban planning professors (nothing personal I promise also only if we're allowed), painting nights + other craft socials, movie + wine nights, board game + card nights, and some competitions! As an individual, I'm a passionate and dedicated urban planning student, and I care about making student involvement fun and accessible. I'd love to use this opportunity to bring our fellow UPA students together, and I'm so excited to see what next year's UPA has to offer!

VP Administration

  • VP administration is in charge of organization for the Urban Planning Association, from meeting agendas and minutes to managing the other executives and internal coordination. I believe my past two years experience on the UPA executive have given me the skills needed to go above and beyond these requirements. I hope to be elected for the position of administrator as I have good organizational skills, both for meeting agendas and managing people, and think as a returning executive, it will be an effective place to take on more responsibility. I aim to assist a new executive team in their management of the UPA, for a seamless and sustainable transition into future years. My understanding of ASFA’s policies, procedures and people will give me a leg up in the running of UPA, and I plan to use my connections with GUSS, PSSA, WSSA, SCPASA, CSU, the GPE department itself, and countless other student organizations to strengthen our community and our program. I hope you will consider voting for me, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

VP Finance

  • I'm Noah Rogers. Last year I was the VP of student life and it was a blast. Coming to a new city incredibly hard, but through UPA social events, I was able to cultivate incredible connections that made Montreal my home. As VP of Finance I would like to continue to engage with and represent our student body. Helping resolve issues that will arise allowing more people to have the great university experience that I've been lucky enough to have.

WSSSA - Women's and Sexuality Studies Student Association

Academic Affairs Coordinator

  • Belen Blizzard is a Women's Studies major, and the current Academic Affairs Coordinator for WSSSA. I am dedicated to continuing the work of prioritizing student's needs, organizing events to strengthen the SDBI community and being a bride between the faculty and the students of the Institute.

Event Coordinator

  • Hi my name is Estella! I will be entering my fourth year at Concordia in both women's studies and sexuality studies. Outside of school I have been working as an event host and coordinator, so I have a lot of ideas when it comes to helping build community and student life. As your WSSSA Event Coordinator I hope to hold monthly events that span from social activities to academic and educational workshops. In my work I aim to promote accessibility, inclusivity, and anti-racism. Thank you!

Mobilization Coordinator

  • My name is Mar Ibrahim! I am WSSSA's mobilization coordinator this semester and hope to continue fostering a space for collective empowerment and resilience. I am committed (passionate) to building community through connection, laugher, disruption, grief and dialogue. I am invested in improving the support, growth and mobilization of our community. As students our needs are ever-growing and ever-changing and I embrace a commitment to flexibility and adaptability to meet those needs. I believe that intention, self-reflection, accountability, collective responsibility and coordinated action is a continous commitment to the community I wish to serve and belong to !

VP Communications

Creative Writing M.a.L

  • Hi, my name is Gabriel Verghese (he/him), but pretty much everyone calls me Gabe. I'm an Honours English and Creative Writing student in my third year at Concordia. One more to go! My creative output is mostly short stories, but I've also written plays, music, poetry, and ran a DnD campaign. As a neurodivergent student, I haven’t always felt accepted in academic circles, but the creative writing events I have participated in at Concordia have only made me want to get more involved.

As CASE’s Creative Writing Member at Large, I would serve as an intermediary between CASE and the creative writing students. Participating in creative writing workshops, submitting to literary magazines, and reading work at public events require a lot of vulnerability from the artists who make these things possible. I want to be someone any creative writing student can come talk to to get their ideas validated. I would hate for your trepidations to prevent you from sharing your best work. If elected, I would also help facilitate events like literary magazine launches that bring our community together and show off its vibrancy. I want to foster a safe space, and, selfishly, I just want to meet all of you and hear your cool ideas.

VP Outreach

  • Do you want to make new friends and be a part of a community? Do you want to find the right fit when it comes to events and volunteering opportunities? Are you overwhelmed when it comes to finding a way to get involved?

Then you should vote for me as your VP of Outreach.

My name is Megan Schmidt. I am in my second year in the Human Relations program and I am specializing in Community Development. I love encouraging and supporting people. Since becoming involved with the AHSCSA, I have loved being a part of an awesome team that is passionate about our program, connecting and supporting students as well as working on innovative projects. My goal as your VP Outreach would be to continue to ensure that you as a student are aware of the many great opportunities that you can be involved in with AHSCSA Opportunities can include volunteering, attending a networking event, or empowering you to implement an idea of your own. I want to help you get involved! This is why you should vote for Me, Megan Schmidt, as your VP of Outreach

  • Dear voters: my name is Louise van Oel, I'm going into my final year in the Joint Specialisation English and History, and I'd be honoured to represent you as your next president of CASE. I've loved my time being involved in Concordia's vibrant English community; I have been on both pixie literary magazine and Soliloquies Anthology's mastheads, and most recently, worked as your CASE VP Academic for the 2023-24 academic year. Alongside Emily Wilkinson, I am organising this year's Literature Undergraduate Colloquium (LUCC), where academics from first years to faculty can discuss their ideas and passions on equal footing. I have heard it joked that the English department, being full of readers, is disproportionately introvert-leaning. Being one myself, I can believe that's true, but attending and organising magazine launches and academic events has shown me the importance of intentionally fostering community—among undergraduates, but also between us, grad students, and faculty. We will need each other as we continue to fight the CAQ's tuition hike legislation. As VP Academic, I've had experience liaising between students and professors as we try our best to navigate the effects of strike after strike. I am adamant that students must be protected from the unjust effects of the tuition hikes, and, if still necessary next year, intend to facilitate forms of continued protest which will not see the Concordia community divided against itself. Should you elect me, I will continue to do everything I can to ensure we come through this crisis as strong as ever.

  • "Hiya! My name is Audrey Beaudoin, I am a first year Creative Writing major & I go by she/her pronouns. It would be my honor to represent you at the most committed level; as President of CASE. On top of being a student & poet, I am someone who is incredibly passionate, hardworking & thinks quickly on her feet. As CASE’s current VP of Mobilization, I have been listening closely to the student body in order to turn their wishes into action! For example, after CASE’s controversial strike vote of YES to a five day strike, & upon hearing the concerns of student members regarding our tactics, I took the initiative in creating an accessible survey in order to get as many voices heard as possible, ensuring the CASE Team was making the best decision for its student members. After reviewing the data, we decided it best to roll back to a one day strike, with heavy focus on direct & creative action.

I am always looking to create solidarity amongst my peers while giving love & ressources to my communities. Being president would give me the access & agency to achieve this while allowing me to strengthen the lines of communication across student associations, & with their members. Furthermore, I am dedicated to making the CASE Executive Team & their decisions accessible & transparent to the student body, all the while ensuring we are truly working together. In a nutshell, I want to make your life easy & I want to get creative about it!"

  • Hi! My name is Laetitia and I've had the pleasure of being your VP of Communications this past semester. I'm a 3rd year Marketing student with a minor in English Literature, which I believe has made me a great candidate for this role. I look forward to having the opportunity to continue working with, and for, you all!
